Receiver types for AK
Need help in purchasing a semi-auto, thinking of an AK 47 type. What is the difference in the following receivers: Milled, Stamped, Forged etc. and what should I watch out for, whats the best vs. worst when considering a semi-auto rifle either ak or other.[^]

I've never seen a forged AK receiver[?] Stamped receivers are usually a bit lighter and less expensive, but the milled ones are stonger and supposed to be more accurate and durable. As long as you stay away from the Hesse receivers you should be alright. An AK is an AK and the main difference is the fit and finish. The Arsenal edition AK's are beatiful and well fitted while the SAR-1's are a little more rough. I have a SAR-1 and a NHM-91 and they are both pretty standard as far as average AK quality goes. They are built to function rather than drive tacks. All of them will hit the side of a barn, some just need a bigger barn[;)]

I picked up a couple of MAK-90 (semi AK types)that are both stamped and both were cheap. One was full of cosmoline (no markings I could read) and the other (Norinco) had a synthetic stock and some use. Cleaning up the dirty one was a blast. I have never taken apart an auto rifle that was so simple, and loose, but worked. My sons wanted the synthetic stock (of course),and they will burn ammo until it is nearly too hot to handle. The other one has about 100 rounds through it total..... and they both shoot just about the same.
