FN Herstal Forty-Nine conversion?

Howdy,

Mine is the Poly frame with the stainless slide in .40s&w. my question is this; since their .40 and 9mm are built on the same frame, and the magazines take both calibers, can you convert the .40 to a 9mm by just swapping out the barrels? I couldn't find any conversion info on their websites. thanks for your expertise.> Bob

  I can't speak specifically about the F N 49, as I never owned one.
  
  BUT there is a dimensional difference between rim diameters of the 9mm and 40 S & W cartridges. The 40 S & W is over .030 larger in diameter, which would probably cause severe extraction and ejection problems.

  I would believe you will need to change the barrel, recoil spring and more than likely the slide, if it were me, just buy another pistol in the other caliber.
