I am looking for a web site that deals in firearms from the civil war era. even information on books concerning the weapons would be appreciated.

  "Warman's Civil War Collectibles" is a large size well-illustrated guide with lots of illustrations and current (2003) estimated values. It has firearms, also. You should be able to buy one for about $20. It's new and a good place to start if you are looking for a book on the subject.
