J-Lock Key?

Can someone tell what a J-Lock Key is. It's on Rem m700 BDL. Is it an advantage or disadvantage to have it? Thanks

    It is essentially a built-in trigger lock. I personally hate the dang things and have purposely bought used guns so I wouldn't have them on mine.
    However, they can be converted to the non-j-lock style with aftermarket parts.

    My way of thinking is that I'll accidentally lock it or forget I did and get 100 miles from no where on opening morning and then realize I can't use it. There's enough excellent safeties already built into the 700.

    It matters not how many times you've been knocked down. What matters is how many times you've gotten back up.

    When you buy a Late model remington with this UNLOCK IT AND THROW AWAY THE KEYS! If you want to lock your gun just get a Keyed Trigger lock,Bought a new remington 870 last year with this dam lock Thought
    i unlocked it popped it in a case and went bird hunting the following morning , You guessed it! it was locked and i sat in the truck while my buddies got thier limits,Its too hard to tell if its locked or not at a glance.

    It is located on the side of the rear bolt shroud on the 700's. It locks the bolt handle so you can't close the bolt and chamber a round.
    It makes lawyers and morons very happy and makes responsible shooters very unhappy.......... [8D]

    Temblor, it's also on 1100's, 870's and I'm sure others...
