varmint scope questions

I need a scope for a savage 12fv in .243 for varmint and target shooting. I have been looking at the 4200 series scopes from Bushnell. I do not want to spend much over 400.00 dollars. Do I need to look at another brand or what do you guys suggest?

    The Bushnell 4200 series are decent scopes. It would be worth your while to to take a look a the Burris scopes, even better I think. for nice price comparisons and good service if you buy there, check: www.bearbasin.com

    Got a Burris Fullfield II 4.5x14x42 on a Savage FVSS in a 22-250. paid around 325. It is a great scope and I would highly recommend it for the uses you describe. I use it mostly for prairie dogs and coyotes.

    There is a ton of scopes out there to chose from. The 4200 series replaced the 4000 series I think. I had good luck with one of the 4000. There are still afew of the 4000 series out there. Scope manufacturers change suppliers and specifications so much, its impossible to know exactly what you are getting without a lot of research. Do a search for "scopes" on the Gun Broker forum, lots of good info from people with first hand experience.

    Worry is the interest humans pay on the debt of miscalculation.

    if you shop around, $400 will buy some very nice used scopes from the burris signatures to the leupold varix 111's...do a search; you may be surprised

    no less than 20x,..only fine crosshairs or a dot reticle, and target knobs for a strict varmint scope. This is of course only my qualifications for a varmint rig.

    Ditto on the signature burris or the 4200 series bushnell (B&L). I saw 2 of the 4200's at the 600yd match yesterday,..and they performed well.

    why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

    As JustC said Fine cross hairs and an 1/8 dot is perfect You might concider going with something like 8x32x50. IF you cant see it far away chances are you wont hit it!O Laugh if you want but I have done my best shots with a cheap BSA 8x32 scope.and have made up my mind to only buy those from now on.

    i use the burris on my 6mm. i found it at bearbasin.com. also, if you can find a nice 6x18 tasco(older jap. models only), they are fine scopes.

    There is a Nikon Monarch 6.5-20x44 on ebay that has a but it now of $349. It is almost new and the seller has a %100 positive rating. Item number: 3653787978

    I have had a few monarchs and they have been very, very good. Would not worry about it at all on a low recoil gun like a .243 and for the price you will not do much better. Hope this helps.
