You've either got a problem with the sight's, are using poor ammo, or there's a problem with the barrel. There should not be a problem sighting the rifle in. Have a gunsmith give it a look.

If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!

The problem with the sight was that the rear sight was nearly too far forward off the top of the base to sight in at 50yds. The base is welded on and the front sight seems too high for the shorter sight radius. Since most users add scopes to these rifles and probably never try to use open sights, do the manufactures not bother to add different sights?

The short stock will give you no end of trouble sighting in and using it (unless your only 5' tall). I have the same problem trying to use my wifes M-7 Youth (and hers is scoped), trying to get into the sights.
Distance between the sights has nothing to do with sight height, as the height is measured to the bore centerline. It only comes into play when your changing the heights as the shorter the distance (between sights) the greater the effect per change on target.

Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.
