The only (1) of your points that I can personally respond to is this overnight delivery business.

The overnight delivery is only guaranteed on normal business days, i.e. weekdays.

When I ship FedEx, and want a delivery on Saturday, I have to pay extra. God only knows what the thieves want for a Sunday delivery.

Well, I'll respond to the rest.

Yes, you are correct, the charges by UPS are outrageous; however, they are matched by similar, or more outrageous, FEDEX charges. I am not sure whether it is to indemnify themselves against those of their employees who are thieves, gouge shooters, or both. In any case, you need to state in your listing that the buyer will pay UPS Next Day Air charges and use the online rate calculator to figure how much it will be when the auction ends; no one unwilling to pay those charges will bid. The buyer, not the seller, will also be the one to pay dealer transfers, if necessary.

Sell your guns locally? For many of us, that's very difficult. The city of Baltimore has NO gun shops still in business. The Baltimore Sun, the only newspaper in the city, refuses to accept firearms ads. There are no gun shows in the city; at suburban gun shows, only dealers can get tables. Trust me, selling guns nationwide with the internet auctions makes a lot of sense for many of us.
