Question About Old German Military Trainer

I have this old German Military Training rifle and don't know what the heck it is. Here is the details on it: It has a long full length wood stock and has a band on the front part for a sling and the butt stock has a sling inlet on both sides and it has brass knob on both sides going all the way through the stock, and has a steel buttplate. The gun has a bayonet lug and has a 26-3/4" barrel. The end of the muzzle has a cap and a protecter over the front sight. The rear sight is adjustable from 25 to 200 meters or yards. The sling band has a 1 and 14 stamped on it. The barrel on the left side says Kal. 22 Lang Fur Buchsen 205838 On the right has a Corwn B and Crown U proof and 5,4mm The top of the reciever has BSW encircled by Berlin-Suhler Waffen and the lower half says Und Fahrzeugwerke and in big letters it has SUHL on it. The left side of reciever has K.K. Wehrsportgewehr and also has the Crown B and Crown U proof marks. The bolt handle has the Eagle N proof mark on it. This is all that is on the gun. Anyone know what this gun is or Brand name, and value? Thanks

    I think that you have pretty much answered your own question. What you have is a pre World War II Army training rifle in caliber .22 Long (not Longrifle). The "brass knob" is for disassembling and reassembling the fireing pin and spring from the bolt shroud. The serial number is 205838. 5.4MM=.22 caliber. The rifle was made in Berlin by the Suhl Weapons Co. The left side says "Small Caliber Army Sporting Rifle". All the proof marks are pre World War II.

    The last one I saw...and this was about 5 years ago....Sold for $450.00 in Phoenix at the Crossroads of the West...

    The absence of a serial number on the bolt and the Eagle N proof (Germans began using this proof in 1940) pretty much signals the bolt to be a replacement. When searching for further information, this model is referred to as a "KKW".

    This is interesting info. What does KKW stand for? Iroquois Scout translated the info stamped on it. Does this mean the same as what he described? Thanks

    K-Kurz=small,K-Kaliber=caliber,W-Wehrsportgewehr.
