Bayonet Question

I have a bayonet with the date stamped 1942 US. The barrel hole is 7/8 in. Can you tell me the gun this bayonts fits. The barrel hole for the 1903 and Garand bayonet is apx. 5/8 in. Someone please tell me what rifle or shot gun this fits. It has OL. stamped on one side and U. C. U. flammng bomb S. on the other.

    How is it that so many bayonets have come to be missing their locking mechanism, especially those with the press stud/leaf spring type (Mauser, Krag, etc.)? I see no way to get this piece out, and it is a mystery to me how it was even manufactured. If one had the spring and press stud, could one repair such pieces? If so, how do you get to the innards to do so? Thanks, Jon

    Sounds like some kind of 1905 variation. Should fit a Springfield (1903/A3) and/or Garand.

    Most likely a Type 2. What is the blade length and are the stocks plastic or wood? There should be a manufacturers code stamped on the ricasso along with US and the Ordnance "flamming bomb" symbol.

    It could be for a weapon with a flash hider - like a sniper Garand or an Enfield Jungle Carbine. Also, I think I remember seeing pix of an M-1 Carbine with a cone-shaped flash hider.

    If it is for one of those weapons, it is very valuable. When I was looking for one for a Jungle Carbine, they were going for between $200 and $400, and were very hard to find.

    Probably modified by the Italians for the BM-59 or 62 rifle which is basically a magazine fed M-1 Garand with a flash hider. The barrel ring was cut and a larger ring welded in place. Some of these were imported a few years ago.
