AR15 GOVT. CARBINE
I have a AR15 Govt Carbine that is in excellent condition. It is a pre-ban gun but it does have a sear block. I am going to be selling this gun soon. I don`t have any use for it and don`t know anything about it. Anybody know what this gun should sell for approx?

To put a value on you must be more specific. I assume you are referring to a Colt? What is Ser. #? Any scratches? Does it have the box & all accessories? It can't be stamped AR15 if it is a sear blocked (blue label) gun. What is it stamped. Probably no bayo lug either...Any history? First owner?...blah, blah...
Also, go out on the GB auction and look at what guns like yours are SELLING for. Sear block guns are cold, especially with AWB issues. Personally, and not trying to be disrespectful in any way, as an owner of several AR's I wouldn't find the gun to be extremely desireable right now especially as any kind of safe queen. As a shooter it has value, just not the HOT money.
I bought a very desireable Colt AR15 SP1 CAR last month on the GB auction for 1225, excellant condition, no box or accessories. This gun would be more desireable than yours, supposedly...

I was told it had a sear block. I wouldn`t know the difference, but right on the side it says AR15 GOVT. CARBINE A2. Maybe not in that order , but that is what it says. Does that mean it is not a sear block? 0 -

??? you're all wet buddy... he was pretty specific in his description... it's a Colt GOVT carbine! Sorry, but your SP1 doesn't compare. His is worth double yours on most days... the Govt model is the most desireable semi Colt has made...0 -
Based on the limited information supplied, $1500 tops. Does it say AR-15 or not on the left side of the receiver?

A GOVT CARBINE IS A MODEL MADE IN SHORT SUPPLY THAT IS WORTH MORE THAN ANY OTHER!

How many have you purchased? It's esay to stand off to the side and snipe the other two people who put numbers on them.
Truth is, I wouldn't pay ANYTHING without the COMPLETE discription I requested.

He's not selling anything here... he's inquiring as to value. He states it's a Govt carbine in excellent condition. If that's the case it's a $2000 gun easily. I already stated in my first post that the rifle could easily be worth $2500. Anyone stating a $1200 SP1 is worth more than his rifle either has no clue or is trying to beat him out of money.
If you have purchased 2 Govt carbines in the last month you know what they are worth. If you're saying you bought 2 AR15s in the last month just to make yourself sound like some sort of AR15 big spender take that crap elsewhere. I've got over 100 sitting in my office right now so you buying 2 this month doesn't impress me much.0 -
Let me say this, sometimes you will get good information on this board and sometimes you will not. Two of us have asked that you share a little more information on this rifle so a reasonable value can be assessed (e.g. a partial serial number, exact wording on left side of receiver, and a better description of rifle). And, then there are others that believe they can divine values based on very little information. Oh well, enough said.[V]
FYI, there are at least 3 variants of this carbine that range in value from $4,500 to $1,500. Without further detailed information it is impossible to assign an accurate value to this carbine. The value I gave you ($1,500) is directly from the Blue Book of Gun Values, specifically the AR-15A2 Govt. Model Carbine. I can only surmise that the carbine the other "chap" is referencing is the Tactical Carbine that only approximately 135 were made and sold. The value of that carbine is upwards of $4,500.
Judge Colt and Mark C. are the only persons on this board that I would say can honestly give you an accurate value of this carbine.
Edit: Information added.
Just a little more info that I ran into. If indeed it says AR-15A2 then it is not the Tactical Carbine, that would read AR-15A3. Further, if it has the sear block, as you have indicated, then it will be the transition carbine made between 1989 and 1994. This one would be worth $1,500 according to the Blue Book. Does it have a Serial Number prefix that begins with "GC"? If so, then it is definitely a transition carbine.
