KNIFE QUESTION

question time . . . .

i am starting to build a colection of military blades. i have a K98 mauser bayonette, a Ka-Bar,a 1898 krag jorgenson bayonette (sword style) and and M3 trench knife.

is there any way that i can display them nicely?

    How do you, or is it possible to, remove stains from a carbon steel blade? Came across an older knife made of CS and the blade is stained - with what I have no idea. Any replies appreciated.

    Try taking it and stabbing into the dirt until it starts to come clean.It will dull it so you will have to resharpen it but it has always cleaned my blades.

    The stains are more than likly a form of rust.

    Try some Remington premium bore cleaner, Ive used it on rust, it will take it off.

    There are other products out there that will also do the same thing.

    One is "fritz"(sp) it is a fine metal polish that comes in a tube. I have seen it at nearly every gun show Ive been to.

    Semi-Chrome polish and elbow grease.You can make it look better than new with enough work.

    Brownells "Steel White" intended actually for removing
    bluing and rust should work for your intended purposes.
    Does not attack the parent metal-if used as instructed.
    A follow up with a distilled water bath and a final polish
    with Flitz should do the trick. If just an inexpensive
    Randall or Loveless-sand blast the blade.[:D]

    Or, just take it down to one of your friendly local gunsmiths that does rebluing and ask him to polish it out on his buffing wheels. Will probably take less than 5 minutes. Warning: He might charge you a little something for doing it; but then again he might just do it for free for the good will.[:D]

    Thanks, all. I'll try the "Flitz" route first and then the others if need be.
