1911 pistol?
I own a few glocks and I have always want a 1911 style pistol, finaly i put some money aside and I have been looking for one, asking around, and for my budget the two brands that looking is Kimber and Springfield Armory , I have about 700dls and I like the SS finish problably a mid side cause I won't be CCW just something to keep around the house and maybe shoot a couple of times, I know there many mods that this pistols can have, I just want to get the most out of my money , have fun and be proud of my pistol.

oddly enough, i came to the forum just now to ask teh same question. I am looking for a 1911 for a maximum of $600-700(and that is really pushing my budget).I however want a full size.Already have an ok carry size 1911(an officers model that has been pretty reworked.)I was looking today at Springfield,KImber,and Dan Wesson. I didnt like any of the SPingfield models. They didnt seem like a good value. Especially since they are made in Brazil. I really Like Kimbers, but the ones i can afford, i dont like much. The model i erally want is the TLE II. It has most of the features i want)night sites, checkered front strap).It is just too damn much money(about $720)for me to spend. I am really impressed by the Dan Wesson 1911's. Even the lowest priced model at the store($499)seemed like a nice pistol. I am thinking that there is one model that was $600 that i really liked-checkered front strap, very nice wood grips.The gunsmith at teh store bought one, which I think is high praise. There are some new Para Ordanace models that are due out in a month or so that look really great. I have a para tho, and it has been a problem gun.

The Kimbers get rave reviews from most owners, but they're pretty pricey. Their more expensive models are essentially custom pistols and can compete with some of the custom makers (Les Baer, Ed Brown, Wilson, Cylinder & Slide, etc.)for "one ragged hole accuracy." You might take another look at the Springfields. Although made in Brazil they are by no means an inferior pistol, though maybe not model for model quite up to a Kimber. Dan Wesson makes a good gun, as does Smith & Wesson (SW1911). Actually, the number of 1911 clones is becoming amazing. Even SIG is coming out with one! You should be able to get something very satisfactory for $700. Probably the way to approach your question would be which makes under $700 to avoid. The nice thing about 1911s is that even the cheaper ones can be made to function reliabily with a little TLC such as feed ramp polishing, chamber throating, deburring, trigger job, etc. And if you buy one that doesn't have all the bells and whistles a good gunsmith can add them on later as you can afford them. And the Kimber. Nice piece, but I keep hearing things about their customer service from different dealers. They ARE nice guns, but marketing may be part of the lore. Can't claim this as fact or not.
