Beowolf 50 cal
I have seen 50 cal conversions for the AR-15. Under different names they look the same. A local gun show exhibitor selling a .499 version says our Coast Guard recently bought 8000 of these weapons. True or False??
My unanswered questions were: 1) who will support this piece with parts and service? ; 2) who will provide ammunition?
Anyone have the answers?

The .499 LWR used by the Coasties and the .50 Beowulf are similar, but not identical; the .499 case is slightly shorter. I don't know, but suspect these were competitive designs for the same contract; both use the 7.62x39 head configuration and a modified M16 / AR-15 weapon system. Alexandria Arms (.50 Beo) operates out of a secure facitlity and seems to be targeting the LEO market, positioning the Beo as a barrier buster / body armor defeating round. I don't know how many firearms the USCG purchased, but it was a considerable number. The .50 comes in SP configurations only, in two dif bullet weights, while the .499 has three military loadings and a HP load.

TEAK...
we stock the .50 BEOWULF ammunition at the shop for a customer. we have the ALEXANDER ARMS LLC U.S. ARMY RADFORD ARSENAL / RADFORD VIGINIA, USA. 334 GRAIN jacketed hollowpoints.
we measured 3 different rounds, with 2 different calipers (manual and digital) and they spec out at .499 diameter.
what is the correct nomenclature for the case??? "REBATED RIM" is a bit of an understatement.
we need to use a .308 base with the .50 BEO dies when we handload the empties for him.
do you think that the .500 S&W heads are the same diameter, or could be interchanged???
i have not had the chance to fire the gun yet, but i hope to in the future. best regards, mike.

Mike, what's in a name? .30 USA, .308 Winchester, .300 Savage all take same diameter bullets, eh? One outfit calls it a .50, the other a .499.
Steroidal rebated rim?
No idea on the .500 S&W, as I've not seen any rounds, but I doubt it . . . isn't the .500 a rimmed case?0 -
Mail-in rebated rim? [:D] 0
