Uzi pistol conversion
I have a post ban Uzi carbine with 16inch barrel and a fixed stock. I would like to convert it to a pistol. 10 in barrel and remove the stock. I don't want to do anything illegal so is what I'm suggesting legal in Indiana?

Don't worry about Indiana; it would be a violation of Federal law.

Listen to what is posted. Pistols are clearly marked in the Serial number. UP 000000 . Barrels are not interchangeable either. Same would be true if you decided to put a stock on the pistol. ILLEGAL. 0 -
Here is a little information about the UZI Carbine. At least, as far as the IMI UZI's are concerned, there is no such thing as a "Post Ban" gun! They were only imported between 1982 and 1986 and stopped being imported when the 1986 Ban was enacted..... There are some that Norinco made that were imported with thumbhole stocks...... and you can buy a Wooden stocked UZI from left over Group Industries Receivers assembled into guns legally by Vector Arms. You can also buy completed Model B receivers from a California Importer that is selling the remaining stock of parts that was tied up in Court for 12 or 14 years or so, until they were recently released for sale by the BATF......
If you are going to become a "Customizer" of this firearm, you would do well to Call your local BATF and ask them what you can and can't do under the law, to one of these guns.......and you will find it is very little! Want an UZI Pistol? BUY ONE! Want a Carbine? BUY ONE! Otherwise, you could be simply "Arranging your Reservations at the GrayBar HOTEL!!!!

Selectfire....please clairfy this. I'm afraid I don't understand what your talking about. It was my understanding that Vector bought all of Group Industries RR's and completed them.
As far as converting the Uzi to a pistol configuration the best you can do is file a Form 1 with the ATF. If and when you get approval you can create a SBR.

First of all, Vector Arms did NOT convert any receivers to "Full Auto!"
When Group Industries was a viable company and started building the "Group Industries' UZIs," they manufactured their own receivers and may have bought some of the small parts from IMI to complete the guns they assembled on their "own" receivers. They manufactured both the semi auto and the Full Auto Carbines and some minis. This was prior to the 1986 Ban which prohibited the manufacture of Machine Guns for the general public. When Group Industries found they would be "out of business" with the 1986 Ban as far as selling "Full Autos," they shifted their entire production to the making of "Registered Receivers" and these were registered and inventoried with the ATF. ATF had all the records for these full auto receivers and the serial numbers. Group Industries also had a number of receivers made up for the semi-auto, but that wasn't a big concern to the ATF....only the Full Auto receivers were of prime interest to the ATF, (What they were called at the timea).
After the 1986 Ban, No ONE could manufacture "Full Autos" for sale to the General Public.....only Law Enforcement and Export. However, the Guns, (Or Receivers made prior to the ban and registered), could be completed and sold according to the Class III regulations, etc.
Unfortunately, Group Industries had over extended their financial position and eventually were forced to declare Bankruptcy. This left their entire inventory at the mercy of the Bankruptcy Court. Eventually, the Bankruptcy Court allowed the sale of the assets which included all of the remaining serial numbered and registered receivers, both semi auto and full auto. Because the receivers were made BEFORE the 1986 Ban, the new owners of the Receivers that were sold at a Bankruptcy Auction, were allowed to complete these guns and to sell them according to the Class III Regulations under the watchful eye of the now newly named BATF.
Vector Arms in North Salt Lake, Utah, was the Buyer of this stock formerly owned by Group Industries. Vector assembled and sold these receivers, both semi-auto and full autos until about July of 2002, when they ran out of receivers. They now make other models of guns and are also making a "Post Ban UZI" which has a fixed wooden stock and complies to the BATF regulations. These are made on the remaining IMI Action Arms LTD. receivers that were ordered BEFORE the 1986 Ban, were shipped to the US arriving AFTER the 1986 Ban, (Shipped by Ocean Liner), that were "Impounded" in a warehouse on the Coast by ATF. Subsequent Court Action and some 14 years later, these semi-auto receivers were finally released last year for sale. They can only be made into "Post Ban" configuration with a wooden fixed stock and certain "U. S. Made Parts." There isn't anyone but Vector making any UZI's in the U.S. and Imports of these guns is prohibited by Law. If you want one, better get it NOW.
Vector ran out of the Full Autos last year! They were making some semi auto carbines, (Receiver Marked IMI Action Arms LTD), a couple of months ago.....not sure what their status is on these now.... But, I'm sure when they are gone......they're all GONE!!!!

Sounds like something I just better stay away from. I strive hard to make sure everything I have is legal and this seems to be something I don't what to mess with. I've had this one for a very long time and have not shot it very much maybe 5-10 times and I really can't say I love the thing, so I was just wanting to do something different with it. Since I don't like to sell Guns, I guess I just keep it in the safe and forget about it. I'd plan on buying a SBR version from Vector soon and an Uzi pistol when I come across one.
