HK G36 or MP5
It is possible for a regular (non LE) person to buy a HK G36 or MP5?

You could probably get one on a Class 3 license but you are going to pay BIG BUCK$.
The FN P90 is still restricted (no class 3) because of the 5.7X28 ammo it shoots (AP) is a no go for non govt. or LEO.

Class 3 dealer can set you up IF legal in your state. $200 tax stamp ( good for life of gun when registered to you ) and cost of firearm. 0 -
An MP-5, which will most likely be a converted semi automatic HK-94, will run in the neighborhood of $10,000. An actual transferable MP-5 produced by HK and registered before the 1968 import cut off for machineguns will cost about double that amount-- I think thre are about two dozen in this country. The G36 is out of the question since these rifles went into production long after the 1968 cut off and there were no semi automatics available for conversion prior to the 1986 cut off for machineguns to be registerd for transfer to individuals. The only G36's available are restricted dealer sales samples and these can never be transfered to individuals.

Your other option is to get an HK SL8, dye it black, get a G36 optic assembly or optic rail ... add a vented forend, then get a Special Weapons M-16 magwell conversion and pistol grip kit ... its the closest thing us simple law abiding citizens can get to the G36... 
My SL8 was shooting 1/2" groups right out of the box so I didn't mess with the barrel, but you could also have the barrel cut down and have a sleeved flash hider installed to make it more authentic ...
Also, if the AWB does go away and isn't replaced, all you have to do to make it a folding stock is remove the block under the stock latch!

If/when you fold the stock will it be able to lock into the folded position? Or just can it just fold? 0 -
I say you go for the Class III, lifes short.. and besides, you could die 2maro, might as well have some fun..

Let me get tis striaght. If im a class III dealer, I can buy all the full auto HK 36s, SIG 550s, MP5s, etc I want? 0 -
From what I unedrstand Special Weapons is "working on" a latch simular to what the G36 uses.

If you are a licensed firearms dealer who pays the annual Special Occupational Tax-- Class Three, then you may deal in National Firearms Act weapons of all types except for destructive devices. The only real advantage we have as SOT's is the ability to purchase restricted dealer sales sample machineguns which are otherwise not available to individuals. If I were to have an interest in another MP-5 submachinegun or another machinegun which I do not currently have in my inventory, then I need to secure a demonstration request in the form of a letter from a LE agency somewhere in the United States asking for a demonstration of that particular firearm. This agency does not need to be in my home state and I've made sales as far away as Wisconsin. Once I have this demonstration letter I can then order the firearm I need from either the manufacturer (if direct sales are available) or from another dealer who has the firearm in stock. In this business it pays to have well placed friends and network because when you need something unusual quickly you'll have to start calling around!
The down side is all post May, 1986 dealer sales sample machineguns are not "keepers". What this means is that once I were to give up my SOT status any such post 1986 machineguns I own must either be sold to another dealer with a demo letter, sold to a LE agency, exported, or surrendered to the BATFE as there is ZERO chance to retain any such machineguns. All registrations for restricted sales sample a clearly marked as restricted and there is no chance for error. As I mentioned in my first post there are no G36 unrestricted rifles in the country and all are restricted sales samples which may not be retained. There are quite a few post 1968 MP-5's available to dealers and if these were registered before the 1986 cut off date dealers can keep them but may not sell them to individuals under any circumstances. I've seen a handful of dealer sample SIG 550's but these are extremely hard to come by. Get yourself a license and you can have all of the toys you wish...for a while, and then the novelty begins to wear off pretty quickly when you understand that you can never keep most of the toys.
