A short Addendum: If your friendly neighborhood F.F.L. unwraps a handgun you have shipped to them from out-of-state, and it is not on the CDOJ list http://justice.doj.ca.gov/safeguns/safeguns_new.taf , AND the seller will not take it back, I believe it sits there until it is sold out-of-state, with the Dealer taking customary comissions.

    Sounds like an Assult Weapon.
    http://www.nraila.org/GunLaws/StateLaws.aspx?ST=CA

It is unlawful to possess an "assault weapon" unless it is properly registered with the state. Unlawful possession can be prosecuted as either a felony or a misdemeanor. However, under certain limited circumstances, a first offense is an infraction, punishable by a fine of up to $500.00. A person may possess an "assault weapon" registered to another person under the narrow circumstances described herein pertaining to the lending of an "assault weapon." Also excepted from the registration requirements are non residents attending a competitive match under certain specified circumstances. A person moving into California who is in lawful possession of an "assault weapon" shall do one of the following: (1) prior to bringing the "assault weapon" into the state, obtain a permit from the Department of Justice, or (2) cause the "assault weapon" to be delivered to a licensed gun dealer and then obtain a permit from the Department of Justice.

Absolutely not..... The only thing close is the new pump action version of the AK.

The semi autos are "assault weapons" and are no longer legal to buy in Cal. If you were to own one before the ban, and registered it, then you could keep it.

As already mentioned; your project is over before it could even get started! By the way, as an unlicensed resident of California you are not allowed to purchase any modern firearms outside of this state.

California has become infested with anti gun nuts along with other deviants and perverts. Any legislator violating our 2nd ammendment rights is a traitor to the Republic and the Constitution.
Every responsible gun owner should send a clear message to Sacramento by moving out of the state to a more civilized state like where I live. Florida!

As a last note on the subject without political banter. There is a pump action version of the AK that I beleive is still Ca legal.
