You can take it to a gunsmith and see if he cant work it out and get it fitted better or try other mags.I have heard problems about these conversions in people doing it themselves and not doing very good and also problems of the conversions having feed trouble.I have seen however a SKS fitted mag that holds 30 rounds on auction. No need for the conversion or feed trouble there since it is a SKS mag made to go into a SKS not a AK mag for an SKS.

I had the same problem. Do you have a yugo? I took my hi-cap mag back and exchanged it for ammo. Not worth the trouble. They take forever to load, they are undepenable (Unless ak converted) And the ten rounder fixed mag in the gun works great. I think the Hi-cap mags were designed with the Chinese sks in mind.

    Good luck

A long time ago on this board, someone posted the necessary modifications to get the 30 round detatchable mags to work on an SKS, took some bending and filing, I can't find the post now, it was long ago. DO NOT TAKE IT TO A GUNSMITH, if he knows anything about the SKS, he will tell you fitting it with a detatchable mag is a Federal firearms violation and run you out of the store. Not that many (in fact, no one) gets busted for it, but it is a felony. Most everyone who knows anything about these will tell you to forget about that detatchable ca ca and stick with the fixed mag, like they were meant to be. If I were going into battle with one (not my first choice) I would take one with the fixed box or one that was designed to take AK mags.

To err is human, to moo is bovine.

BoeBoe is right. The fixed 10 round mag. is much more dependable, easier to load, and more fun to shoot. I had a Chinese [:p]one converted about six years ago.[xx(] Sold that dump of caca at gunshow and bought a russian with factory mag..

The best compromise on this seems to be the 20 round fixed chinese mag. Even the 30 round fixed gave me problems.

Get a USA-brand mag, a lot of the cheapos floating around don't work for anything. On some SKS's you may need to adjust the feed lips so that the rounds are feeding properly. The rounds should point a little inside the edge of the chamber and be feeding at the 5 and 7 o'clock positions. PS: It is a felony to put a detachable mag or any other evil feature on a Yugo SKS, they have the maximum two "evil features" already with the bayo and grenade launcher.

It probably is a Federal No-No to fit one to the newly imported rifles, but it wasn't always so. The USA mags were made for the Chinese version, and originally came with instructions for small modifications needed to make them work satisfactorily in the Russian version. That's when the Chinese and Russian were the only versions that had been imported in any quantity; and they told you up front that they might not be satisfactory in the Russian. Unfortunately, they were so cheaply made that a lot of them didn't work well in the Chinese either! I've got a Chinese fitted with a USA 30 rounder, and I went through 5 to get 2 that functioned. I am not surprised, therefore, that you are having trouble getting one to work in anything else, as the different rifle versions were all made to slightly different dimensions. It is such a pain to take in and out that I just leave one of them in and load it through the top. I wish that I would have jumped on a couple of the fixed Chinese made 20-rounders with the star on the side; now they are no longer to be found. I'll add my advice to the previous posts and say stick with the original 10 round mag for reliaility. You can reload it fairly quickly with the 10 round stripper clips.

As others have mentioned, I have had the best luck with this type of fixed 20rd mag.
