Authentic AK-47?
Who makes the most authictic ak-47 available here in the states.The most closely related to the original design of the AK-47,sloppy tolerences and all?

First of all an AK is a AK, they are all basicly the same.
There are 2 reciever types milled and stamped, both being equal in reliablity, form and function.
A preban stamped Polytech Legend ($1000-$1,300)is about as close as you can get for a dolled up (good finnish work) as you can get in the US.
A postban Romanain SAR1 ($285-$350)is typical of the ComBlock for fit and finnish for the troops.
With a 16" standard barrel they are basicly a 150meter gun, and not super accurate.

The stamped receiver variant is actually an AKM, the M standing for Modern. The milled receiver is actually called the AK47. Check out the purty Klashnikovs that Krebs makes. I have my Romanian SAR1 over there getting a muzzle break, trigger job, and refinishing done to it. It doesn't really need it but what the heck.

I like the Arsenal SLR 95. It has milled receiver, chrome lined barrel. Tight. Used about $500.

I checked out AK's a couple of years ago...
If you just want one,... Get the Romanian. If you want something special, and want to spend a $1000, look at the milled receiver models.
(I think there are several makers now!?)
I went with a Norinco (Chinese), they're built close to the soviet specs but the firing mechanism has a bit more heft to it, and the receivers though still stamped, are of a thicker gauge steel.
Look for around $350-4500
