I'm rusting & can't stop!

My shotgun got wet when the cooler leaked in the back of my truck. Cleaned the inside of the barrel & action fine. But the outside of the barrel continues to rust despite all the rubbing I do with gun cleaner. What should I do? I can't let this continue...

    Don't laugh..But G.I. Issue Bore Cleaner works wonders on the Outside as well as the inside!

    I find Blue wonder one of the best gun cleaning products.
    Your not getting all the rust out of the pores so it will keep comeing back. Blue woner will cure that

    I also recommend Blue Wonder. Remove your barrel from the stock. Apply the Blue Wonder Gun Cleaner, let it sit a couple minutes, then with a hairdryer or propane torch warm the barrel until it is WARM TO THE TOUCH ... NOT HOT! Then with a clean cloth or even paper towels wipe tha barrel down. You should be suprised by the "gunk" that comes off.

    You could quit at that point and oil the barrel, but, I sugest you repeat the process, and I think you'll get a little more out/off of the barrel.

    With that done you can oil the barrel, or apply a silicon based protection ... or use Blue Wonder Armidillo (sp?)

    I don't sell this product, but since I've started using their products I've become a very big fan.

    Lastly, if all of your previous efforts have removed some bluing, consider using Blue Wonder's bluing kit ...

    Try so SUPER FINE steel wool and Rem-oil,Sounds like surface cancer and should get knocked off with this method.I always make it a point to keep my Field guns Lubed and light coated with the rem-oil, Great stuff......I Got many of my guns soaked for hours in rain and snow
    and after other oils that washed off this stuff will save your hide.

    I have a Savage 110 that seems to rust pretty quick.As a last resort I sprayed a product called Viscotene on a rag and wiped it down.From then on no more rust.I think it is made by Valvoline

    get some water displacing oil from midway usa. this is what i use when i come from the hot bluing salts into a cold water rinse and then to the oil. works forever

    You just have to remove that leaking cooler.

    Anything salt in what leaked from the cooler?

    Do what the others have suggested, but you might also want to degrease (acetone works well) the problem areas then pour boiling hot water to rinse away any salts. Dry well then coat with a thin film of oil.

    Take some Breakfree CLP and some steel wool, and rub the rust off really really good. Then use blue wonder cleaner to degrease it. Heat it up with a propane torch till its warm to the touch and clean it again. Then use some blue wonder bluing and refinish that spot. After you put the developer on, let it sit for a few minutes then put a nice thick glob of Rig44 grease on it and wrap it in a paper towel. Let it sit up for a couple of days, and wipe of the goo, leaving only a thin coat.
