Some of the Saigas were imported with wood stocks. Keep your eyes open for them (I've seen some on Gunbroker).

The generic (pistol-grip type) AK stock will not work on the Saiga since the trigger group is set farther back on the receiver to use the "sporter" (traditional style) rifle stock.

Also, you are aware that you are limited to 10-round mags without (relatively) costly modifications to the rifle? That's my only significant complaint with the Saiga, along with the lack of heat dissipation at the forward stock during rapid fire sessions. The traditional AK forward grip is better if you like rapid-fire.

I have two sar-1 in my collection and i have shot thousands of rounds thru them, cheap ammo, good ammo,etc...I have never had a problem with either one.Right now for the price the sar-1 is the ticket, the only thing i would advise to do is to work on the trigger.WHEN shipped over the trigger is one thing they replace, you can either put a piece of rubber tubing over it,or work on the trigger manualy.I beleive surplus rifle had a nice section were they explained how to work on those triggers to make them more comfortable.

LET MY BIG 50 DO THE TALKIN FOR ME!!!!!!!

The SAR 1 is a great weapon, but if Jonk wants to shoot .308 rather than 7.62x39, the Saiga is the best low priced .308 simi-auto. Jonk, I beleive CDNN Investments carries the Saiga AK in both synthetic and wood. You will need to download their catalog or request one as they do not place firearm ads on their web page, but they do sell firearms and have very competitive prices. As to your question; the standard AK wood stock will NOT fit the Saiga AK. The Saiga is designed after the AK, but the two are dimensionally differant.

I have the Russian Saiga AK in 7.62 X 39. Mine has a 20 inch barrel, which is kinda unusual. It has a black plastic pistol grip also. I agree with the comments above that the trigger tends to "slap or bite" the user. Wearing a glove or placing a rubber tube over the trigger itself will take care of it. Mine came with the side rail for scope installed and I think that is a BIG plus. As to the black plastic stock, I had to order a replacement plastic buttstock because the one that comes with it is too short to use a decent scope
you'll get hit in the eye! I also agree that with rapid and sustained fire the front end gets hot. Mine takes 30 and 40 roundd standard AK mags. CDNN is a decent place to buy an AK. All and all I like my Saiga AK but I really believe the Chinese Mak 90 is a better built weapon and certainly has a better barrel.
