50 BMG Sinle Shot
I am looking to buy a 50 BMG Single Shot. Does anybody know anything about the LAR Grizzly? Good, bad or otherwise? I was also considering a Serbu or an Armalite AR-50. The Grizzlies are affordable. Barrets are out of my price range. Please advise...Thanks

I have never personally been around one, nor do I know anybody that has one but I've never heard anything bad about them.

Go with the Serbu- easier to load and unload- works like a regular bolt action instead of having to screw the shell holder in and out like on thr Grizzly. Serbu was also top rated by Gun Tests Magazine ( the Consumer Reports of gun magazines). Stay away from the Vulcan/Hesse.

I have a Serbu BFG-50 and it is a great rifle.
Check it out at www.serbu.com

I read the write up in the guntest magazine on all the 50s I too like you would like to have a Barret but I don't have the dough to put out for one. I wanted a Serbu but settled on an Armalite 50, My buddy bought a Serbu and we shot both of them together last week. They both have their good points. The serbu is lighter at 22 pounds but has a harder trigger pull than the AR-50. The armalite is much heaver at 34 pounds but the felt recoil is much less than the serbu. I can shoot the armalite at 1000 yards and watch the bullet hit the target. The serbu's recoil was such that I could not get the scope back on target before the bullet hit the target. After shooting 50 rounds my friends shoulder was very tender. The armalite after 50 rounds my shoulder was just fine. After shooting the Serbu I am glad I got the Armalite. 0 -

I have an AR50, shot the Sebru, Robar & McMillian. Did not care for the breech loaders. Could not afford the McMillian or the Barrett.
BMG bad points - every accessory is super expensive, scope rings $125 up,scope expect to spend $800 up for a good one that will hold up, cleaning kit with guides $150. Alot of ranges wont allow a BMG on the line. Lots of noise.
DO NOT use a harris bipod on a AR50, get the Prince M60 bipod! $200. Dont use surplus mil-spec ammo, to much variance in quality and corrsion factors.
Who in their right mind wants to shot a BMG offhand.
The AR50 is heavy, excellent for bench rest or prone, great muzzle break, very little recoil, one of the best chamber/bolt locking systems & super accurate.
I have over $4,000 in mine now, and paid $2150 for the basic gun new.

AR-50 is supurb for the price. I would be wary of the grizzly, they have been cycling back on too many of their products.
AR-30 is sweet in the 338 version as well... plenty of power and hell of a velocity on the bullet.0 -
Thanks for all the input....I'm going with the Armalite 0
