PARABELLUM
Any one know what the differance is in 9mm Luger ammo and parabellum? I cannot seem to find any parabellum ammo to shoot in my 9mm Luger.

CAN ANYONE PLEASE EXPLAIN WHAT THIS TERM MEANS? I'VE LOOKED IN THE DICTIONARY, ASK A FEW PEOPLE, EVERYONE RELATES IT TO 9MM. BUT I STILL DON'T KNOW. THANKS.

It's German, roughly translated it means "Pistol for War"

Since the Romans didn't have pistols, I think it means more like "Prepare for war". This is only part of the original Latin phrase that translates to "If you want peace, prepare for war"
Definition: The original Latin of the expression "if you want peace prepare for war" comes from "Epitoma Rei Militaris," by Vegetius. The Latin is: "Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum."
Also Known As: Si vis pacem, para bellum.
The term as it is applied to the Pistole 08 was coined by Georg Luger and is the name he gave it independently of the 9mm caliber. The original caliber was 7.65 Parabellum.
BTW; It's only in this country that the P08 is known as the Luger. On the Continent, it is known as the Parabellum.

I've always seen it in the gun rags translated as "for war"...?

9mm Parabellum is basically a "pistol for war" 0 -
P3 is spot on. It is latin "Prepare for war."

9mm parabellum = 9mm x 19mm cartridge
9mm x 18mm = makarov
9mm x 17mm = .380 ACP
There are a few in between these close cousins.
