Colt AR-15 MFG Date?
I recently acquired a Colt SP-1 with the SN: SP48XXX. I think it was manufactured in 1978. Is that correct?
Also, I have very old eyes and really need a scope. What would be my best option? I'd like to keep it as original as possible. Colt 4X20?

I'd say your AR-15 was probably produced in around 1975. The original Colt scopes (3 and 4 power, with 4 power being the later version) turn up from time to time but I was never all that impressed with them or their overall perfromance, although they were very compact. Just my own opinion.

1975 started with SP43801 and 1976 started with SP55301. So that would make it somewhere around early summer of 1975. 0
