Beretta XTRA Wood

I know the Xtra wood isn't a solid piece of the grain you see. I'm not sure if it's laminated or what. I need to decrease LOP 3/4". It has a GelTec pad, and I would like to keep it. I assume I can grind the pad to fit. The main question is, can I cut the stock with the standard tape & cut method?

  its gonna be a mess if you dont have a sander and band saw jig. and dont forget the 2 pad/plate screw hole depths will change.
