If I get all the parts for a rifle, how hard is it to assemble it? I'm ex-Army Infantry, so anything too indepth is out of my league ;)

I'm looking to make a custom 700 BDL for my brother, but would like to save a little cash on putting it together myself. Am I missing something here?

And tips and or links would be great!

    From my feeble attempts to "build" a gun, it turned out to be more expensive than purchasing the completed gun. Think of buying a car versus buying all of the parts you need to build a car--way higher.[}:)]

    How custom are you going? (means different things to diferent people).

    Leave the receiver/barrel work to a qualified gunsmith, trigger work and bluing might be his also. The stock, scope mounts/scope, bedding are yours. Depending on your sense of adventure you might take on the trigger and/or the bluing work yourself.
    Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.

    i build custom rifles. its not rocket sience but you will need special tools that cost alot.that is , if you are going to do chamber work , barrel work etc. what did you have in mind?

    As far as bluing, barrel work, etc goes, that was always going to be done professionally.

    I'm gonna buy a McMillian A5 a match barrel (locally) Trigger assembly and action once I have all of the work done on them and I get everything back, how hard is it to put together? I.E. Is it just a buncha screws? If not, then I would definately let someone else do it. Better safe than sorry ;)

    Mounting the barrel to the receiver and chambering for proper headspace is gunsmith work. The special tools REQUIRED are not cheap and it's possable to screw up big time (read make scrap iron out of the barrel and action).
    The rest is basicly screws, but takes careful fitting of the parts before screwing them down.
    Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.

    Buy one complete and ready to shoot...Save a lot of money....unless you have a Lathe, Drill Press, Head Space Guages, Taps and Drills....the list Goes on...
