Heard of rifle break-in; is there pistol break-in?
RancheroPaul Success and enjoyment during the "process", 200 into the .32 (99.5%) and 100 (98%) into the .380. Session two comes soon. And saxon, with those itty-bitty guns, a chicken is way overkill. A small Callifpepla Californicus does the trick about these parts .[:D]
Heard of rifle break-in; is there pistol break-in? The subject says it all. I cleaned it when I got it, it was already pretty clean, fired two mags, ran patches through it and wiped it down, shooting FMJ, 45/45 so far (100%).
As far as ther barrel goes, just use it normally and clean it as you would any other gun? I hear of guys with rifles going through some kind of shooting ritual where they use a particular ammo for the first hundred rounds, cleaning the barrel at certain intervals during the shoot...
As Dave says below, I just assumed the break-in was to fire the thing a few hundred rounds; let the feed ramp get a little wear on it, get the parts moving, etc.

I consider a pistol break in time to be 500-1000 rounds. This gets the action worked in, the feed ramp a little worn, the mags of the gun a litte use, ect. Mostly I notice how the trigger mechanism reacts the more rounds you put through it, this is particular noticable with double action revolvers, I don't stop at the shooting range to clean a gun, unless it really starts to malfunction, I'll break it down to see what's going on.

Actually, I think the point is this. You cannot just enjoy a gun, you must enjoy the "process!" In order to do that, you must beat the hell out of yourself with certain "rules and regulations" designed to inflict the most physical and mental pain on you. It is NOT results you are looking for,.....remember it is the "process!" Therefore, either use or design a "process" by which you can spend the maximum amount of time doing the most useless possible thing required or needed, to stretch the "process" to obtain the most abuse possible to oneself! Then you won't have any need to worry about the "Results!" Good Luck and Remember, don't try to enjoy the gun......only the "Process!!!"

I'm headed up into the forest with half a brick, a thermos of coffee, and my insulated digging suit.
RancheroPaul Wife said I was takng her to "Rings" movie, so that was that, I'll try again. And yes,, my .22 w/ a 5.5" barrel is a blast. Even out to 100+ yards.
I'm running through a 3032 Inox Tomcat trying to get it to fail, but it won't.

OKay, How'd it go? Didn't shoot the Thermos did you? If so, that's not part of the "Pistol Break-In" ritual,.... normally.......Hahahahaha!!!
Seriously, hope you enjoyed the session and the gun! Although I have shot just about everything there is to shoot, I still love the good old .22! Plinkin' with a .22 with a good supply of ammo takes a lot of the "world's problems away!" Good Luck!
