I have been asked to refinish and finish two gunstocks. Can someone tell me what new stocks are finished with? Would a water base floor finish work? It stays clear and gets hard.

ok, what you need to do is use tru-oil. it is one of the best

get a tru-oil kit and lots of sandpaper! clear finish should be sprayed on, not gooped on with a brush. if youre refinishing, you will be removing the old finish, right? the tru-oil kit will have the re-stain kit included. use it! follow the instructions. good luck!

Yo Michael, after you read this- go to top right of screen and click on -search- now on the new profile, type in stock finish (in search block)go to bottom, click search again and all your troubles are a solved. JIMBO

I like tru oil also nice finish I use 0000 steel wool to finish the last few coats with a tack cloth to remove all dust
