OK.. How does one load a Thompson drum...

It is very awkward to slide the 50 round drum onto my semi-auto 1927-A1 Thommy, having to hold up the gun, slide the top bolt back (Bolt does not stay open on a semi) and push donw of the locking tab, all at the same time!
Experts... What do you do? !!! The bolt is pretty strong, and like I saiid, balancing the gun on my hip, while holding open the bolt and sliding on the drum is kind of tough.
Any advise?

dallasdave the bolt will stay open, there is a "lever" inside the slot for the magazine, slide the bolt back, push up the lever and it will hold it open. Then when ready to chamber a round just pull back the bolt handle and let go. I can't help any with the drum as i don't have one.
