You cannot go wrong with Zeiss I am told, no personal expierence with them, try www.bearbasin.com for either scope and many other premium scopes. 0 -
You definately can't go wrong with Zeiss. But I think for the money and durability, Leupold is the way to go. My hunting partner has a Leupold on his 300 win mag. He has used it for several years and in the process has dropped it, and fell on it, both times he took it to the range and the scope was still dead on. I personally have a Burris Ballistic Plex and have had no problems with it. It's a great scope.
I think the only thing you gain with the high dollar scopes like Zeiss and Kahles is more clarity at farther distances. So if your willing to spend twice as much, I'm sure you will be very satisfied with the Ziess.0 -
Zeiss Conquest is made of Zeiss Germany parts but assembled in the USA. You are getting close to the same quality as the german made Zeiss but at about a 60% discount. The cost is not that much more than the Leupold Vari-x 3. For the quality I would go zeiss.
The best place I know to buy the Conquest(I have done LOTS of looking) is from Mark at HuntElk4@cs.com and he has an ebay rating of about 99.9 positive on over 2000 sales. I bought a refurb scope (Nikon Monarch) before and he sent me a brand new one instead. Excellent to deal with and the best prices.
I would suggest looking at their reticles (I prefer the #4 over the standard Z plex) and then asking him about it.

I have both of these scopes. I like the clarity of the zeiss over the leupold. It is worth the little extra cost. My hunting buddies were suprised at the clarity of the zeiss over their leupolds as well. I carried my zeiss in PA bear season, it got bumped around a little. I then took it to Colorado on a hunt where it got bumped around some more, on horseback. I shot a mule deer. I came home and fired 3 shots at 250 yards, and it was right on. These conquest scopes are great.
Hope this helps you buy the better of the two.
