22-250 Ammo Question
I have a 22-250 which I realize is a bit light for whitetail. However, can someone tell me what 22-250 load is best for white-tail out to about 150 yards? Thanks in advance!

A 55gr SoftPoint would work or if you can find a 60gr would be better yet.

NOT a polycarbonate tipped pill. A partition or triple shock or heavier soft point in the 55-69gr range should do it to better than 200yds.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

You want to be careful about using heavier bullets, they can be longer and depending on your rate of twist may not stabalize very well. Check your rate of twist and compare that to the bullet that you select. I know that this is the case with the .223 with heavier bullets and it may also apply to the .22-250. My two cents worth. 0 -
This is not a flame, just what I think is good advise. Having to ask the question you did, you have identified yourself as a non-expert and should not be shooting deer with a 22. Please be a good sportsman and give the deer a break and use an adequate caliber for a humain harvest. 0 -

I agree with mbsams. You could try to shoot a deer in the eye with a pellet gun, but why would you want to? There are plenty of better calibers out there. Choose one of those!

go with a barnes x or a nosler partition. also, go to the reloading forum go to the search feature and type in 22 deer hunting and my old post should come up. it has tons of useful information about this topic. i have nosler partition 60 gr with 38.0 gr h-380. these shoot under 1/2" at 100 in a remington 700. i believe the barnes are a bit heavier and i think i am at my twists rates limit with 60 gr.

Took two whitetails this past weekend with the 22-250 at appx 150 yards. Found a publication that recommended Black Hills Gold Ammo in a 60-grain NP bullet. Thanks to the forum for load recommendations. One went 30 feet and dropped. The other went about 50 yards and dropped.
mbsams and ishootblanks, the 22-250 does work on whitetail with the proper load and shot placement. It's definitely not a pellet gun.

63gr sierra smp 33gr IMR4895 CCI 200primer.deadly on whietails,shot a truck full.never had to look far.most dropped where hit.bullet placement as always important with any caliber.. 0 -
I completely disagree with mbsams and ishootblanks!
Its actually more humane to cleanly take an animal with a rifle you shoot consistently well than to miss, or wound an animal, shooting something that makes you flinch, or otherwise practice poor habits every time you pull the trigger... And the .22-250 is certainly easy enough to shoot extremely well all day long!! I got mine primarily for the range, but would definitely take it for deer if it were legal where I hunt. (Shotgun only in NJ...)
As bnailon correctly stated, the .22-250 is perfectly adequate for taking whitetail. In fact, both Federal and Black Hills sell .22-250 rounds specifically for hunting Whitetail - and other vendos may too. Of course, the same rules and common sense regarding shot placement and reasonable distances still apply - as they do with any caliber.
