Almost went to Heaven by a 1911 !!
Took my new Rock Island 45 1911 out to the range today to test it out. I fired 2 shots and the third shot blew the firing pin back at me at no telling what kind of speed. I felt it blow by my ear and it went through the back of the ranges tin wall. What a piece of %#$* !! I took it to a Gun smith for him to look it over and tell me what might have went wrong. THE FIRING PIN WAS.025 TO SMALL FOR THE GUN !! They said that it was irrepairable and not safe to ever be shot again. Any way, my question is, ( since I'm currently looking for a new gun ), anybody had any problems with a Taurus 24/7 9mm ? Are they good guns ? Nice to shoot ? What about the Witness 40 cal. ?

how is it unrepairable, from what you described it would have had to break the firing pin stop or the firing pin force it's way through it, which sounds almost impossible due to the fact the pressure to due such a thing is spring loaded unless a case failed causing such great pressure in the firing pin chamber

Even if the firing pin chamber is f'ed up, you can still just replace the slide... I'd get a second opinion.

Ditto on the second oppinion. Even if your slide has been damaged beyond repair - - which sounds doubtful from your description of what happened - - your frame should still be fine. 0 -
Why would you even bring it to a gun smith. If it is new like you said, you need to be talking with Rock Island. I'm sure a problem like you say would scare the crap out of them and would LOVE to take care of the problem.

Some folks don't care for Rock Island, but this is the first I've heard of anyone having a safety issue with them. Call them first, I'm sure they'll make things right.

Get your money back from RI and buy a good quality gun, like a Kimber, Springfield, or Colt. What's a few more dollars when compared to losing your sight or your life. Guns aren't the area in which to skimp on quality.
