Just purchased a circa 1965 Python, nickle, 6 inch. There is a screw hole in the top strap going all the way through to the inside of the frame, exiting right to the rear of the forcing cone. Looks like a scope mount feature, and it is threaded.

Is this a "stock", factory hole, or an aftermarket drill job?

Any help appreciated. I have looked at other pictures of these, but very few show the topstrap, and the ones that do don't show the hole, but that may be a plug.

    Its an after market drill job. Pythons dont have holes like you describe in the top straps from the factory.

    Thanks. Lesson learned. I saw that beautiful piece, and wanted it sooo bad, and the price was soooo good, that I bit on the "...they all have that, you just need to call the factory and get a plug.." line. And I'm not a rookie - I just don't know jack about Pythons.

    Shop was real nice - took it back, no problems, seemed like an honest mistake on the salesmen's part. In his defense, that hole was threaded, lined up dead center, and looked 100% factory. Had they not taken it back, I would have kept it as a shooter (hoping that hole did not weaken the top strap and blow up on me), but I'm not looking for another shooter. Wanted one to pass down to the little man, and the more I looked at that hole, the more it bothered me.

    Next time, I'll ask BEFORE I buy! Save me some deisel I burned returning it!

    Definatly not stock, lot of people ruined a few pythons by mounting a scope.
