700 in stw ?
I have been looking for a sporter in one of these and cant find many at all...on occasion , run across the ss/dm and rarely a custom shop ks, but thats it ...was this made in any other sporting configurations (not sendero ) maybe a limited run by a distributor ?

Why not buy a BDL in 7mm rem mag and simply have the chamber enlarged to 7mm STW? That is of course if you can't find one from the factory and that is what you really want.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

I am not sure just what it is you are looking for, or if it really exists, as some of your acronyms don't make much sense to me.
As for the heading of your thread, I assume by "700" you mean Remington Mod. 700. By "stw" it appears you are looking for a Rem. Mod. 700 in 7MM STW (shooting times westerner)

If you in fact want a 7MM STW, it is as simple as rechambering a 7MM Rem. Mag. as long as the magazine lingth will accomodate the new STW shell.

The 7mm ultra mag will likely render the STW obsolete. If you want a more powerful 7mm than the rem mag, I would suggest the ultra mag. 0 -
Yes, I beleive that you can rechamber a 7mmMag to 7mmSTW, but will the barrel be long enough to justify burning all that extra powder? I figure that 26" is a minimum length for this round. I figure one of these years a Ruger no 1 will come my way and I will rebarrel it with a 28" barrel chambered for the 7mmSTW. The 1000yd shooters regularly use 30" barrels to get all the velosity they can out of their cartridges. Good luck in finding what you are looking for... 0 -
yes, i am refering to a 700 remington in a shooting times westerner..i know of the stainless steal synthetic that was made sporting a detachable magazine ( and muzzle break ) that had a 24"barrel and of the kevlar stocked models that come out of the custom shop, but am unaware of any other factory produced guns in this particular chambering with the standard barrel contour ....was hoping a bulb would go off in someones head and i would be told of a limited run of guns with 26" barrels that were commisioned by a distributor were put out in the past, but havent ever heard any rumors of that happening...the ultramag is tempting , but at present I found alot more factory offerings for loaded ammo in the stw then for the ultra. The very limited reloading info. I have looked at suggested to me that the performance difference might not be all that great when you push the pills yourself considering the amount of extra powder and the likely muzzleblast from that. The STW will work in a 26" tube very well. The RUM in all reality needs a longer tube to burn it's powder if loaded with slower propellants shoving heavy pills. The factory loads these large magnums with faster powders that give poor load density so that they can be used in shorter barrels with ligher pills and still manage to acheive velocity gains. I tend to feel that barrels at 28-32" are best with overbore magnums and the use of heavy for caliber projectiles coupled with slow powders is where these large capacity cases really start to pull ahead of the pack.
Any gunsmith should be able to simply punch the 7mm rem mag chamber out to 7mm STW with his reamer and little else work.

Well I respect He Dogs comments on the capabilities of the 7mm Ultra, there is now way the 7mm Ultra will render the STW obsolete. There is only 1 factory load you can find with any ease. The 140 grain corelokt. That is it. The other stuff is not made anymore to my knowledge. The STW has multiple factory ammo in multiple grains. My opinion is the 7mm Ultra is already on the verge of being obsolete. Unfortunately I own one and really like it. After searching the corners of the universe just to get the factory load I prefer, I gave up and had a custom load made.

yes, it would be easy enough to punch out a 7mm mag to a stw , but do you know of any special runs of 7mm with the 26 "sporter weight barrel ? know a few hundred were made in the 25/05 and 300 win, but... 0 -
Not sure if this will help but I believe that winchester made one in a model 70 for a short while and you might be able to find one. I know a guy who has one in a mod 70 unfired and may be willing to let it go. Also weatherby used to make now discontinued an stw in there mark v accumark, great rifle but a little heavy for a common sporter at 8 1/2 lbs unscoped. The weatherby comes with a 28 in barrel. I believe sako also makes a rifle in stw. Hope this helps. 0 -
I believe they made it with a 26" sporter barrel as my father purchased 1 a few years and loves it, but I will have to measure it. As far as barrel lenghth, my gunsmith was using rem 700 7mm mag with standard 24" barrel to make the stw long ago for guys to take out west and never had a problem. I am thinking about buying the Sendero in 7mm mag and having rechambered and a muzzle break added 0
