P14 Action??

Anyone know if these are any good as well? Have an opportunity to buy one cheap. This would be the basis for a custon rifle it they are any good.

    I have made several custom rifles using the p14 action. 460 weatherby to 25 Ackley Krag.

    Everything a M30 remington or M1917 is, with a bigger bolt face. A nice original military one is worth $250 on up.

    I suggest before you spend any big money on such an action that you have it "magnafluxed" . While this won't help determine the actual strength, it will reveal invisible cracks or defects in the metal. Make sure the gunsmith knows what he's doing. In 1997, I had an action of this type disintegrate in my face seriously injuring me. I was also under the impression that the p-14/p-17 enfield action was strong. Overannealing for drilling scope base holes was the probable cause of my accident. This kind of thing is the result of gunsmith error.

    "Overannealing for drilling scope base holes was the probable cause of my accident." while these actions can be on the 'hard' side I've never had to anneal one to d&t for scope mounting (same with the springfield 03 actions). Brownells carries a carbide drill bit to break the surface hardness so you don't have to anneal even the hardest action.
