Quick question, Remington Model 30
In the experts opinion, since I am going to gunsmith school and all in a couple of months, does everyone think a Remington Model 30 would be worth the 130 bucks that the local dealer wanst for a beater? Has a few holes drilled for scope mounts, bore looks okay but I would most likely toss the barrel anyhow.

If the action is in decent shape, by all means, buy it!
The M1917 action is one of the smoothest and strongest around.....and you could use it to make a very nice "custom rifle" project in your gunsmith class.0 -
Heck, yes, I'd buy it before someone else does, unless it has 7 or 8 holes drilled off-center, over-sized, with broken taps inside, deep rust pits, ground off lettering, etc.
Look at what model 30's are selling for now. Model 720's also.
That action will handle any round you can stuff into it.
I would go without food or gasoline for a week if necessary to get a deal like that.0 -
Remington has made more than their share of mistakes over the years, and not continuing the production of the m30 and later 720 is one of their worst.
They admit they did it because of the cost of manufacturing.
Winchester has corrected their boo-boo by giving you a choice between the old and the new, but Remington seems to be stuck with their 721, 722 and 700's.
