Old Shotgun
I have an old shotgun. It's barrel is marked Strong Fire Arms Company and the receiver states A. Dickerman. Does anyone know anything about this fire arm?

I just purchased a double barrel 12ga shotgun by Hopkins & Allen in real good condition, exposed side hammers, no model number with ser. #26272. Any knowledge about the gun, date of manufacture, and the value. Please advise if you can

Buffalo Bill Cody...2 3/4" Shell...makes it a 1900's made gun...My database shows at least Six [6] known makers using the Name of Buffalo Bill as a Trade Name....but nothing deffinate as to whom the actual maker is/was...Have a Gentleman sitting here in the office that swears up and down that its a 1930's gun made By Marlin for Montgomery Ward.......I personally can't give you anything deffinate on the maker of this Shotgun......

Marlin you say. I seem to remember when I found out a couple of years ago what it was exactly that Marlin could have been the maker of this shotgun. I will continue to investigate this matter. Also the reason I am trying to find out who made this shotgun is to purchase a new stock for at Numrich because the original stock has a large stress fracture along one side. Also the steel parts of the gun has developed significant surface rust so what can I do to restore it.

Start with 0000 steel wool or brass wool and Breakfree or even rem oil. Gently go over the rusted areas with woll and Breakfree. When all is off, give it a good coat of hard carnuba wax (like Truwax) Once the rust has started, nothing short of a refinish will stop it, though the wax will slow it a lot. It does not have enough value to justify having it refinished, and refinishing will pretty much destroy any value it does have. 0
