Does anyone know of someone who makes drop-in .17 barrels for a ruger 10-22?

    In order to use the 17 HMR you would have to have a 10/22 magnum. I think there are some 17 Mach 2 barrels available for the 10/22. I believe the bolt and recoil spring have to be changed also. Maybe it is Butler Creek that makes them, not sure on manufacturer.

    It is easier to get forgiveness than permission.

    You didn't say if it was .17 HMR or .17 M2.

    I converted my 10/22 Magnum to .17 HMR when the .17 first came out.

    I installed a Jarvis factory taper target barrel on mine. It is a target barrel but as a result, the rifle doesn't require the 0.970 oversize stock to accomodate a bull barrel. The rifle also got a drop-in Power custom trigger job that reduced trigger pull to 2-3/4 lbs., a titanium extractor with overpower spring (the bottle neck .17 and the benz chamber make extraction more difficult), a bolt buffer, and 3-9x42 variable power scope. Sweet. The Jarvis barrel is very accurate and dropped right into the receiver - no problems. This rifle will shoot a very small group.

    If you are considering the .17M2 conversion for your 10/22, please observe the previous advice from ndeltaguns. The .17M2 is considerably more powerful than any 22LR. Any caliber conversion to .17M2 on a 10/22 will require a higher mass bolt to dissipate the recoil energy. If the bolt is not replaced, the timing will be wrong and the breach will open before chamber pressure is at a safe level.

    A complete kit can be obtained from E. A. Brown Company. Their higher mass bolts are very reasonably priced. Volquartsen also sells them but expect to pay $100.00 or more dollars for the bolt. Here is a link to E.A. Brown:
