Winchester 94 year of manufacture? Bert?
Serial number 53453XX, does anyone have a reference book listing year of manufacture?
Also, this rifle appears to have a square cut inlet in the barrel for the front sight. I was told that Winchester always used a dovetail cut to install the front sight on the 94's?

Not too much help; my list only goes to 5103248 as being the end of 1982 production. Am assuming yours is newer. 0 -

You will need to call Winchester to get the DOM, but my guess is 1985.
As for your question about the front sight, the .375-inch (3/8") dovetail cut into the barrel was only used on the Sporting Rifles (which were discontinued from production in 1936). Since that time (until recent years), only the Model 94 Sporting Carbine has been produced. The Carbine to the best of my knowledge has always utilized a soldered front sight base.
