old 12 ga. single shot

i"am looking for info. on an old 12 ga. that had engraved on the reciever "long range winner" its was a gun that was given to me a long time ago by my grandfather, i had a misshap with it and would like to replace it, however i don"t know what to look for.
any help would be apprecieted,thanks

    The "Long Range Winner" was sold by Sears, Roebuck & Co. from 1893 to 1909 and was made by the Crescent Fire Arms Co. in Norwich, CT. Crescent went out of business in the late 1920's.

    Virtually the same gun was sold by a variety catalog houses, large gun dealers, and hardware store chains under a large number of "house brand" names.

    You could probably find an identical, or very similar, gun for sale at large gun shows, estate sales, or on-line auctions.

    Be aware, though, that these "turn-of-the-century" shotguns were made for black powder, and should never be used with modern shotgun rounds.

    And, they should not even be used with black powder shells, until checked out by a gunsmith experienced in evaluating such barrels. Most today are wall hangers, and probably most have well earned their retirement.
