244 Remington
I picked up a Remington 740 in 244 caliber the other day. I am trying to find out if the 6 mm ammo of today is interchangeable with this 244. Thanks for the info!!

Not a problem at all, the 6mm amd 244 will readily exchange with no problems at all....

It is interchangable, however the .244 had a slower rate of twist, hence lighter pills will be necessary. The .244 was renamed the 6mm Remington as rifles chambered for 6mm had the improved faster rate of twist to stabilize heavier pills. Until this change the .243 Winchester was able to fire 80-100gr pills because of its faster rifling twist while the .244 was limited to pills under 80grs.

Try some 75gr pills in your .244, should work fine

But..... don't let that stop you from trying heavier bullets. sometime (like in my uncles gun) they shoot great even though they shouldn't. 0 -
Thanks for the replies. I thought that I had once read about the slower rate of twist and lighter bullets. That is what I always understood but wanted to confirm it with the EXPERTS!!!
