Bullet unstable or just not settled in flight

I have a .243 barrel for my Encore. I had some ammo left from Alaska with 100 Gr. bullets and a medium charge if 4831. At 50 yards they show a tendancy to key hole a bit but the groups are not bad if I do my part.

Is this from a unstable bullet due to twist rate and the heavy pills or has the bullet not settled in flight yet?

The 77 gr pills shot one little itty bitty hole about 2" higher than to 100 gr pills did.

Any opinions on the 100 grainers?

    There is a slight YAW to bullets when they first leave the barrel however I would have thought they should have settled down by 50 yards. My suggestion is to try them at 100 yards if they have the wrong twist for your barrel then the keyhole should get worst. If it is the yaw ploblem then the keyholeing should all but disappearby 100 yards..

    This reminds me of an incident at TSJC many years ago. My friend had built a 25-284 and was shooting Sierra 117gr. SBT with a pretty hefty charge of Idiot Proof (H-4831). He was shooting 3" or so groups at 100yds with random dispersion. He had loaded a couple of boxes with various charge weights but all were towards the heavy side. With a huge case of frustration setting in he decided to shoot the last ones up at the 300yd butt. He actually shot a 2 3/4" group at 300yds. This was my first experience with yaw and I have never forgotten it. It seems to be much more apparent with the longer bullets of any given caliber although I have seen an ocassional 17 cal. HOR 25gr, from my 17 REM show a tendency to yaw.

    You might need a stouter load to stabilize the pill as well. For light loads I get better results with 80gr pills, with stout loads the 100gr is more consistent.
