Three shot from Russian M-44 carbine

Will appreciate hearing from shooters their opinion as to what might be called a good three shot group (measured center to cebter) shot from Russian Military M-44 carbine at a distance of 50 yards. What might be expected as to accuracy from this military gun. Thanks for your input. jclane40@yahoo.com Can accuracy of a barrel be improved?

  There are a lot of factors in accuracy out of a m-44. Some shot better with the bayonet extended, some it dosn't matter. Ammo will also have an effect. It should do better than 3" group at 50yards, but don't ecpept clover leafs. I have a m-44 that does 2" at 100yards, another that is almost 12" at 100.

  I would expect to see 2-4" groups at 100yds. They're pretty accurate, but some are tempermental. They vary heavily in accuracy, the Russian barrel drilling procedure was remarkably improved in the mid-50's so the guns from the 40's may be really accurate or really inaccurate depending on where and when it was made and how much of a hurry they were in.

  You should also keep in mind that the M44 was designed to be the most accurate with the bayonette extended. A folded bayo produces bad barrel harmonics.

  I have one that I droped off the bayonet lug, shorten the barrel to 18", recrowned it with an 11 degree crown, 1# trigger, with good handloads will make 1/2" 3 shot group at 50 yards.
