possible sticky? what's it worth required info

I see a lot of folks post a question as to the worth of a firearm and get promptly corrected (sometimes less than tactfully) as to what info is required to make an estimate Might we consider to post a sticky of what info / photos are needed to make such an estimate. This might prevent newer members from feeling like an idiot when someone insults them for not having enough to go by.[?]

    Nothing is more irritating than the well meaning but gun ignorant fellow who writes, "Hi, I just inherited a gun. It's a rifle. It has a wooden stock, it's old, someone said it might be a mouser. What's it worth?"

    In my opinion, being less than tactful with the above is fine. Treat morons like such. I, for instance, no nothing of classic cars, baseball cards, etc., but would be savvy enough to list condition, any marks, dimensions, etc. Anyone without the brains to figure this out shouldn't have a gun at all.

    However, those who at least list some useful info deserve a polite, well thought out response. I don't expect a non gun fan to say, for instance, "it has a Manlicher stock", but would expect them to say, "on this gun, the wood goes all the way to the end, to the muzzle."

    Hello fellows,

    Great idea, but experience tells me that at least 50% of the time, the person posting the question (with a severe lack of details), will not read the Sticky before posting his/her question (or lack thereof). On a different forum that I frequent, we have the following information in each of the separate Forum's preamble (and it does not require opening a topic to see it), and people still do not read or pay any attention to it;
    . SHOTGUNS, most questions answered here, CLICK!.
    . Before posing a question, try out the search function.
    . Please make descriptions as detailed as possible, you cannot have enough detail.
    . Questions with too little detail or wrong category seldom get answered.
    . No offers to buy or sell allowed.
    . Experts are spending their time to answer your question, please appreciate their efforts.


    I believe that the best approach is to just simply and politely point out that the requested information/assistance can not be provided until a better description is forthcoming.

    Jonk: I believe your mouser may be valuable. Particularly if it has one ragged ear and is yellow. If it will work both house and barn it's value is double.

    Good idea for the value questions. How about a sticky with links to the sites with DOM info! That is on here all the time, too.

    Too hard or too much trouble? Might save certain people alot of key board time.

    I also think it a good idea, even given the caveats in BertH's sage post. It would still reduce the number of replies saying "not enough info" and "post a pic" by half. Reducing frustration for both poster and responder could only be good.
