Colt Series 70 and 22 Conversion Kit

I have a Colt Series 70 Gold Cup and Colt 22 conversion kit. The conversion kit has fixed site. Both are unfired and I've reached a point in my life where I'm itching to start enjoying some of my toys.

What would be the impact to value of having adjustable sites put on the conversion kit, preferably the same sites as on the Gold Cup?

Would Colt do it?

    Hello my suggestion is to sell the unit with fixed sights most of them had adjustable sights and you may be able to get an adjustable sight model and have money left over . There are many for sale on the EVIL flea bay if you want a match grade conversion unit go with a MARVEL or Kart these you can lock the barrel to the frame MIDWAY sells the marvel. They will both shoot rings around a colt conversion unit.

    With the Colt conversion kit you will have what is essentially an Ace. I have and Ace and had a conversion kit I used on my 1911. Both were consistent in that you could expect a feed failure in every 10 to 20 shots. Later I got a Ciener conversion kit that has fired over 300 rounds without a failure. For whatever it is worth

    The Colt .22 units had quality control problems in the fit of the floating chamber to the barrel. I've owned 9 of them over the years, and have had many freinds who also owned them. About 1 in 3 of them had to be sent back to Colt to have the barrel replaced. The floating chamber would "lead" solid in its recess in 50-100 rds (worse with unplated bullets) Good ones still need the area between chambe and barrel scraped-cleaned every 500 rds or so. Withhout the chamber's enhancement of the recoil, the heavy steel slide often would not cycle. If you are having a failure to feed problem, it's either a case of the mag lips being improperly dimensioned, the mag sitting too high or low in the frame, or the follower's being too low. I had to build up the followers with epoxy, making them about 1/16" "taller" in order for the units to feed .22lr hollowpoint ammo reliably.
