Check out Olympic Arms too. They make lowers cut to Glock mags and I belive they will do others too.

I have a "post-ban" Colt 9mm. It's very fun to shoot.
range? I never really shot it past handgun range. Certainly less than 100 yards, I'd say.
mags? Colt mags are pretty expensive. $50+!!! They're available here most of the time. Uzi mags work and are considerably cheaper. They don't hold the bolt open after the last shot though. I don't have any experience with other mags.
barrels? 16" barrels are standard, I think.
reliability? Mine has been absolutely reliable. There's no gas system like a "real" AR. Pretty simple. Just feed, bang, eject!
thoughts? This is a fun rifle to shoot. That should be reason enough to buy one! I keep mine loaded for defense. Against a psycho raccoon or opossum, feral cat perhaps.
It's one of those guns that you spend more time loading mags than you do emptying them! Practical? I dunno. Pricey? Yea. But fun? Absolutely!0 -

im thinking a cheaper version with a a4 flatop upper,..and a perm. pined mag block,.. i have no need for a .223 ar again0 -
what is the name of that company that has drop in uppers? they just bolt to your existing lower. i had one in 45 too. worked fine, lasted long time. never could stand that mag adapter held in place by the mag button. instinctly you go for that mag button and it drops the whole thing out 'adapter and mag.' makes you feel stupid. takes a while getting use to that adapter lever.[:I]

Olympic makes a nice AR in 9mm, kind of a goofy mag set up, it take sten mags and you send them to Olympic and they put a spacer on them. My cousin has one and we are actually taking it out this weekend. I think the price for the Colt in crazy, but they are hard to find. Check out www.ar15.com I sometimes see them in the Equipment exchange....

I've used the short barreled Colt SMG model some. They're a decent firearm and are especially good for use by people who've already trained with M16/AR types.
Just be careful and don't let fully loaded mags drop to the ground base first. Their double stack/alternating feed position mags tend to do the same volcanic self-emptying action that Uzi's will.
As for accuracy, I've shot them at 100 yds. with various types of ammo and found that Winchester 147 gr. subsonics grouped best. When firing from a kneeling postion with standard sights they held to around 3 inches.0 -

i've never had a uzi,. so i dont know what your tring to say.

this is why im thinking about a 9mm/.45 AR. the lower set up is as familar to me as the back of my hand,..and would be cheaper than getting a HK/mp5 clone in 9mm.
