never heard of that one. Have heard of 250-3000 or 250 Savage though.

It is easier to get forgiveness than permission.

Surely that is .250-3000? Now sold as .250 Savage, without a lot of choices, but still there since 1919 (I think). Never heard of .253-3000.

Well, some of you guys aren't old enough to remember the .250 Savage was properly known as the .250-3000 Savage. I didn't know it was shortened to .250 Savage.
The 3000 indicated the advertized velocity.

That's also where the 250 in 22-250 came from. A 250sav case necked down to 22cal.

why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

It was 1915. IIRC Newton designed it for a 100 grain bullet at 2700. savage wanted to get 3000fps for the marketing purposes, as this was a barrier that had not been broken yet with factory ammo.
So instead of having a 250 newton, we have a 250-3000 savage, AKA 250 savage.
