    There's some guessing here as to which this is but this looks like at least fair cond and my 2004 catalog shows none of the Harpers less than 1750 for fair and 750 for poor.

    Well, since you aren't aware that there is no such thing as a Harpers Ferry 1854 musket, I suggest that you not buy any antique firearms until you at least acquire a basic firearms library.

    It appears to me to be a Model 1842 US Percussion Musket, which was made with a 42" barrel. So, it would appear to be a rusty rifle with the barrel & stock cut down. I don't know what it should sell for. I just know that you shouldn't let a high "buy it now" price trick you into thinking that any given gun selling for substantially less than that is a good buy.

    $490 sounds like a great deal.
    I'd have that nipple out and be shooting the gun.
    The barrels' original 40" length could very reasonably have been shortened during rifling modifications to be more in line with latest 1855 types 1&2, Harpers Ferry 33" rifled barrels.
    It could have also been shortened by US or Confederate armorers.
    Shortening barrels is not new ground for the Army. They shortened 1847 Walkers and 7 1/2, 1873 SAAs .

    Thanks for the input guys. I don't collect antiques, but that seemed like I deal, and I thought somebody might enjoy it. I have too many projects! I am glad I had enough self control!
