Two very popular shotguns. Most would choose the #870.
Yet Mossberg is used by US Millitary & Police more often.
In published test, Mossberg seems to come out on top most often.
Whould like to hear opinions from experienced users.

    The mossberg is much cheaper also. You can buy new ones for under $160. I love my mossbergs, they are much easier to load because they don't have a gate to deal with, this I think adds to the appeal of the tactical types like military and LE.

    Have 3 of em 2 of em many years,not as pretty as my 1100,or 870,But used 3 times as much of either of the rem.s.Cant count how many rounds been fired thru my 20 ga. Great guns for the money,only problem i had with new 410 was safety broke i replaced it from plastic to metel,Mossberg would have done it but i chose to use metel unstead of the plastic stuff they use nowadays.PAUL

    The Mossberg used by the military is the 590. Strenghtened quite a bit, but the same design. I had a 500, but got rid of it and got an 870. I lost 1 shell of capacity but gained what I feel as a better made gun. The 500's forearm was a rattler and I like the safety on the trigger guard rather than the top of the reciever. I got an 870 express magnum for little more than my 500. I also like the matte finish of my 870. [:)]

    Kind of like the Ford Chevy thing, suite your taste, if you dont have a chevy, you more than likely have the 870 also.[8)]

    If your planning on doing a great deal of shooting,,,choose the 870 it will last a lifetime. Both are good guns,,,BUT!!!!

    as compared to the Mossberg #500 (basic)
    I guess I agree with almost all that was stated.
    Question: Is the military version (stronger receiver, etc) available
    retail? Is the Rem. #870 Express (low-priced) basically the same
    as the top model (more expensive). (ie) general mechanical action?
    How about using "sabot" ammo. in rifled barrels?

    Well mossbergs are still made in the USA and Remingtons are made in CHINA since they got bought out BY THE FRENCH but either way they are like and similar but the mossberg is cheaper and does the same exact thing.
