NEED EXPERT HELP - NEW GUN BUYER - TURNING 21

Hello Everybody. First off, I am just getting into fire-arms. I'm turning 21 in January. I'm looking for a hand gun for self-defense. I plan to be active with my gun(s). I don't know much about fire-arms, except that my dad had a .45 colt so obviously i'm leaning in that direction. [:)] I'm looking for a cheap but nice gun that I will hopefully be concealing. Sorry for the life history, lol. Now for the question.

What Do You Think About This Father-Son Combo of A Hi-Point .45 4 1/2 Inch Pistol And A 9mm 3 1/2 Inch Pistol? I Am Turning 21. I'm 6'3 180 lbs. Male. Do You Think I Would Be Able To Handle These Guns? Any Other Information You Could Give Me I Would Really Appreciate.     You can shop around for better prices of the Star Bm and the Mak's. You can do alot better then the Hi Points.

    Is There A Specific Reason or Reasons To Avoid Them? Just Asking Because of The Life Time Warranty. And Also, What Would Any Experienced Gun Owners Suggest For A New Gun Owner. Keep In Mind I Would Like To Stay In The $300-$400. I Know It's Not Much, But I'm Trying, lol...

    Personally, for my first gun, I would choose a 4" 686 if self defense was a criteria.

    else, I would probably go with a Ruger 5 1/2" bull barrel 22LR.

    I've actually heard a few good things about the Hi-points. But I'd still rather opt for a star BM 9mm or a Makarov

My Main Question Is What About The Lifetime Garuntee? I've Only Seen A Few With That Especially In A Good Price Range, But If It Is A Decent Gun It Can Always Be Fixed And You Get Two of Them. What Do You Think About That?

    Get a pair of Ruger .22 pistols and get your technique and practice done with something that isn't going to burn a hole in your pocket buying ammo. Hipoint's are decent plinkers, but they leave a lot to be desired in the quality dept. They are made of zinc, not even steel.

    Springfield Armory has the best lifetime warranty in the business.
    You can get a Springfield MicroCompact GI model for around $450.00.
    I have had one for a while and it is great; accurate and reliable.
    In the rare event that you had a problem with one, when you call them, you get a real person on the line right away and the service is excellent. Look at all their models, they go all the way up to professional models contracted by the FBI. Priced from $450.00 all the way up to $2500.00. Their guns have been the choice of World Champions in recent years. They are on the same level of quality as Colt and Kimber. High Point is several notches down the pole.....
    Springfield came out with the GI models so that everybody could afford a Springfield .45 1911A1. It's no frills, but has the quality metallurgy and manufacturing processes of all their models.

    Here's my two cents Colt or Springfield Commander size 45acp would be my choice and was my choice. My youngest son started with a 1908 Colt 25acp and now has a 380 Govt, 9mm Commander, 400 Corbon Gov't and a 45acp Gov't.

    great idea to get a 22 Ruger Gov't style and practice practice practice. Then go for a good 1911 style

    the first thing you need to do is to learn how to handle and shoot a handgun , the best way to do this is with a .22lr ,, look for a Ruger Mark II or a Browning Buck Mark

    after that I would go with a 9mm just for the simple reason that there are alot of them out there , which can mean lower cost plus the ammo is dirt cheap plus the recoil is less and with good defense ammo it will get the job done if you need it to

    you can pick up good quality Ruger , S&W , or any other of the name brands in the $300 range

    save the compact 45acp until you have some time behind the trigger

    my first pistol was a ruger p-95 dc in 9mm. relatively cheap and a pretty decent shooter. the ammo is pretty cheap, i would say the only thing cheaper would be a 22 lr. my second choice would be a springfield xd in 9mm. my third would be a ruger mk II 22lr. a used mkII can be found for well under $200. my best advice would be to not jump onto anything. go with someone who owns some handguns and shoot them. make sure you like whatever you are getting before you buy it. i would really hate to spend a couple hundred dollars on something "cool" and then end up having a couple hundred dollar hammer.

    I'm not an expert, but i did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.
