socom16 just purchased
i have plenty of nato 7.62mm rounds (308) not US, how will they perform in my socom 16 i was told they are not good for it?
i bought this thing on impulse what do you think of this rifle?

Was it Springfield Armory, Inc. who said the NATO rounds are not good for the Socom 16?

It's probably because of the corrosive primers of the Turkish rounds, not the sizing...could be wrong...

Gosh, Frog, I don't know everything! The disscussion of .308 vs 7.62X51 NATO has been played before here. I, myself, am not too very much concerned about the casual and occasional swapping of 7.62 NATO with .308, and visa versa, but I know there are some things to consider. I think someone who knows more will be better able to answer this.

If its a Socom 16, then it was made by Springfield Armory.
I have a Socom 16 and a couple of full size M1A's and they all shoot .308 and 7.62X51 just fine. I have shot a lot of foreign ammo in them with no problems. I would just suggest staying away from corrosive ammo.

thanks for the info i will try this ammo out and let you know what i think afterwards havn't got the rifle from the dealer yet but i can't wait this rifle should make a good ranch gun and not stick out on both sides of my atv and get pummeled in the brush like my model 70 thanks again 0 -
New guy here. I have a SOCOM 16 and I've shot a ton of South African .308 through it. Ate it up and spit it out without a hitch. I might add, this rifle is a very fine weapon. Recoil is less than I expected as is the decibles concerning the report. Not bad at all.

Haven't heard of any turkish 762 surplus... can you post the headstamp? Indian and Paki ammo are really dirty, as is "cavim" from Venezuala. Just got a few hundred rounds of Portugese but I've not shot any. My FAL doesn't care about the dirty, it just keeps going... 0
